I just Googled SAVAK here's a short exerpt from the first of 283,000 page hits.

SAVAK was founded in 1957. Its mission was to place opponents of the Shah's regime under surveillance and to repress dissident movements through intimidation, exile, imprisonment, assassination, and torture. Though estimates vary widely, it was likely responsible for thousands of deaths. Its first director was General Teymur Bakhtiar, who was assassinated by SAVAK agents and replaced by General Hassan Pakravan. Pakravan was replaced in 1965 by General Nematollah Nassiri, a close associate of the Shah, and the service was reorganized and became increasingly active in the face of rising Shia and Communist militancy and political unrest. Former director Pakravan and Nassiri were eventually executed by the Revolutionary Guard after the Shia Revolution.

I don't trust google provided sources like wikipedia when I can find and read some unbiased sources that help me learn. I just dont copy and paste stuff from wikipedia like you do. Wikipedia is for people who are lazy to read some intelligent books and sources of the matters that interest them. Are you not an intelligent man? I assume you should be!

you made a comment that the shah was not a dictator, i showed that he was....with the help of the SAVAK.....therefore the burden of proof is now on you to show that im wrong.


but you dont, you always respond with ad hominum attacks when people challege your views. which is pretty poor form if you ask me,.


now before you have a big ol' cry about wikipedia again.....if you think the articles are wrong, then feel free to edit them. it's peer reviewed.

Well, it's quite simple. You seem to treat the issue of the Shah and his murderous regime as some kind of joke which can be overlooked. It must be a joke, as no person I know sees it that way. Unfortunately if it is a joke, it goes right over my head, to me it is a crime against humanity. I naturally thought that you being of Middle eastern origin, you must view it differently, you didn't even understand my point, obviously you have a completely different set of values to the rest of the civilised world.

Recognizing that even this level of violence had failed to crush the rebellion, the Shah abdicated the Peacock Throne and departed Iran on 16 January 1979. Despite decades of pervasive surveillance by SAVAK, working closely with CIA, the extent of public opposition to the Shah, and his sudden departure, came as a considerable suprise to the US intelligence community and national leadership. As late as September 28, 1978 the US Defense Intelligence Agency reported that the shah "is expected to remain actively in power over the next ten years."
