We Finns have this wonderful thing called conscription. :D

Well I'm a new user too so might as well borrow this thread. I'm a 26-year old university student from Oulu, and I served in the AA-regiment in Rovaniemi near the arctic circle. I was there for 11 months and in the end they actually made me a sergeant.

Some basic info on the Finnish Defense Forces. There are three choices to choose from. 6 months for basic assignments such as jaegers and artillery guys, but 9 months for the more special types of training. Reserve officers and sergeants have to serve for 12 months.

When I served way back in 1997, it used to be 240, 280 & 330 days, and of my 330 days I spent about a 110 in the "mettä" meaning field excersises.

Looking forward to some great discussions with you people. :)

I split it from the Finnish marine thread, since I think you deserve a welcoming thread of your own.. :)

Welcome to the forum Hegario, looking forward to your posts!

Hey welcome! What's Jaegers mean?

Hi Trevor.

A Jaeger is what we Finns call our basic infantrymen. Our rank system works in a way that the lowest rank also shows the branch you're from. Jaegers are infantry, artillerymen are artillery and so on. :)
