Check it out!

Or i finish him by assault rifle before he gets at close range. All is matter of training subjects to concentrate on. Which one is more sane to use training time on: good weapon use or chopping concrete? That kind of trained toughness and circus shows won't help anymore when hits the same route with bullet or artillery shell.
EuroSpike said:"well if u say that, then its nearly the same in the old days, u get killed by with a bow and arrow."
Ok, that kind of toughness and skills may have been necessary in middle age when most of combat was hand-to-hand, but in modern warfare and firepower they are likely for only very marginal use. There is a lot of much more important skills to train than chopping concrete and taking hits.
And about body guard training, i can bet that even any civilian private security company/corporation can give more professional training than N-Koreans shown on the video. How much do they give escort training or person protection which both are quite important skills in body guard's work? Video doesn't give the answer and like usually there will be only less information available about N-Korean training systems.
Whispering Death said:Toughness certainly is a useful skill in modern combat. If you can handle having a shovel tossed at you, or the pain of breaking through cinder blocks, chances are pretty good you're able to fight through bullet wounds too.
Also, bodyguard divisions in armies are often more ceremonial and symbolic than militarily effective. So by becomming profficiant in HtH combat they are showing their martial prowess in Korean Tradition.

I was watching the History channel (as always) and some of our ex and present troops who served at the meeting place, can't remember the name, where the cease fire was signed, were telling of their experiences with the NK troops. American soldiers have been ambushed and killed through the years but always by a gang of their guards. One-on-one is a no-no for NK guards because our troops are specially chosen for size, over 6 ft tall and brawny build. This is meant to humiliate and intimidate NK guards and it works very well because there has never been an incident between one-on-one. One of the US guards said he prayed for one of the NKs to make a mistake and get too close to him.

and they probably are willing to die for Kim

u got to know NK are humans too, they would definately have tested their IQ before becoming Kim's protector. Just because they are "hard" dun mean tehy have to be thick. Kim placed his saftey very highly, so i wouldnt think he would be so foolish to have a dumb brute next to him. they are properly trained and have brains like the delta forces. or the german GSG-9 (expert in protecting a important person).
EuroSpike said:"The breaking of implements over various parts of the body is really for show. I'd imagine his bodyguards have some kind of akido/ju-jitsiu style training which does not require brute strength or size to make effective."
But needs about 10 years intensive training and experimence to handle them properly, specially eastern martial arts like ju-jutsu, aikido, taekwondo etc.
