Indonesia awaits election results, likely loser pulls out

By Wilda Asmarini and Gayatri Suroyo JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesian former general Prabowo Subianto, the likely loser in a bitterly contested presidential election, withdrew his candidacy on Tuesday, throwing the vote into confusion just hours before the results were due to be announced. Prabowo's rival, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, is widely expected to be named the next leader of Indonesia, home to the world's biggest Muslim community. A KPU spokesman said the withdrawal of Prabowo's team would not affect the legitimacy of the election process. This doesn't mean that we have to redo the election," said KPU spokesman Hadar Gumay.
