Yes USA will be worried about that.

USA will always be worried about ANYONE who would compete against USA's current dominant role in the world.

Russia has always built a fighter aircraft whenever USA tried to dominate the skies with their aircrafts...... the MiG's and the Sukhoi's were answers to USAs F-15s and F-16s.
Now that USA is threatening again to dominate the skies with the raptors and the JSFs, Russia is planning to build the fifth generation fighter together with India as they cannot afford it alone.I think that the pace of the plan should increase if we are to catch up with USA.

But I think Russia will lose terribly in this competition over 5G jets. When time goes on, russia will lose more, and finally diappear in world military top notch competition, they don't have the economic power to afford this competition, I also doubt if they will have the WILL to compete in near future, since they will one day realize they are no match more in this fierce new world competition game, ussr's old time is over.

Russia might seem to fall apart, but I doubt it.The BRICs will only rise...Brazil, Russia, India, China.

Even the Americans have not inducted many 5G jets in their airforce .India and Russsia developing a 5g jet, and India inducting the
LCA.Big problems or what?

It'll of course threaten america's air superiority..so its obvious that they'll try to do something about it..any country will.

Russian 5th generation fighter to fly in 2007, says air force chief
03-Dec-2004 17:31 GMT Source: Financial Times Limited

Text of report in English by Russian news agency Interfax-AVN web site

Moscow, 3 December: The 5th generation combat aircraft under development for the Russian air force at the Sukhoi company will fly no later than 2007, Army General Vladimir Mikhaylov, air force commander-in-chief, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday [ 3 December].

"I earlier reported to the supreme commander-in-chief (President Vladimir Putin - Interfax-AVN) exactly the same, and I have no doubts that it is real," he said.

He added that he had visited Sukhoi on Thursday, and spent in excess of three hours discussing the problems arising in the course of the new combat tactical aircraft development. He also said that "a great work has been done" in this sphere. "I am satisfied with the results. The electronic model of the 5th generation fighter is ready, its aerodynamics and other parameters calculated," he said.

According to him, over 100 Defence Ministry specialists, and both military and civilian research and development institutions are analysing the work done. "We instructed them to find as many shortcomings as possible so that the developers could eliminate them at early stages of the process and could move further at higher tempo," he said.

"There are some unsolved problems, for instance, with the weapons suite and avionics. We should think over the possibility of introducing foreign elements, or maybe refuse this possibility at all. However, these are all on-stream problems, and we have made a good step forward, even in light of the limited funding in 2003-2004 and 2005," he added.

"The aircraft will fly in 2007. I told Mikhail Pogosyan (the Sukhoi director general - Interfax-AVN) yesterday that the aircraft should fly in 2007, let it be 31 December, but 2007. I am sure that the task will be fulfilled," he said.

Addressing the question whether the new aircraft will be a real 5th generation or a further derivative of the existing Su family, Mikhaylov said: "Of course, it will be a totally new aircraft. As for the modifications, we are working at them too. Last year, we made the Su-27SM Flanker. It was a good one. Even those who offered other modernization parameters recognize this fact. The Su-27SM is close to the 5th generation aircraft in terms of performance, but will never reach it, as the backlogs on the 5th generation tactical fighter will turn even better with the years

I think the answer to this thread is pretty obvious. The Americans wouldn't want to sell their top tech to some guys that are likely to sell that tech off to its enemies without any hesitation.

That would be interesting. Though for the next 10 years though it's unlikely that India and China will have the strategic reach in order to achieve this end.
Any time in the next 10 years, the seas around India and China will belong to NATO and allies during the event of a war. The US will probably retain air superiority over large portions of China if they can solve knocking out key air defense networks.
The other interesting thing would be which side Japan takes... which is likely to be America before China militarily. Which further bolsters the NATO + Allies grip on the sea.
As for a rolling over of Russian Forces across the European continent... think of what a daunting task that would be. It'd have to first of all, bust through all those Eastern European countries (except friendly Belarus), then bust through Germany, then bust through France and Italy... then bust through Spain and either grab Portugal or hope they surrender... then mount an amphibious operation against the UK.
And I can hardly envision a scenario where European troops start invading Russia.

i don't think US will be that worried about the fifth generation fighter,

but IMHO US may not sell hi-tech weapons to india ,not only because of the russian connection but also because they wouldn't want to frustrate pakistan

In the last couple years, America and India have come a long way. The Amercians have offered India a stake in JSF, and are pressing to sell F-16 c/ds + deep license to India for the bid for India's interim fighter

The S-47 is just a tech demo, and the photo that was posted in the 1st page I've since learned was one of the design proposals for the LFI. The PAK-FA project would be a twin-engine a/c

but also because they wouldn't want to frustrate pakistan[/quote]

The new fighter would definitely bring about a big shift in the arms balance between India and Pak if the Sino-Pak joint venture on their new aircraft has to be considered.
Talk about frustration, the Pakkis would definitely start firing wildly in air again in all their frustration.
