Hey I live Next to the Place where the Republic Day parade takes Place ....... I watch it every year :).

Although India obtained its independence on August 15, 1947, the Constitution of India has been in effect since January 26, 1950.

To mark the importance of this occasion, every year a grand parade is held in the capital, New Delhi, from the Raisena Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's Palace), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort, The Total Distance is around 9 KM ........ The different regiments of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force march past in all their finery and official decorations ......... The President of India who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, takes the salute ....... The parade also includes vibrant displays and floats and traditionally ends with a fly past by Indian Air Force jets.

The Only Surviving Cavalry?

CHECK ME OUT GUYs .BUT THE PRESIDENTIAL BODY GUARD-THE MOUNTED BODY OF TROOPS SHOWN IN THE ABOVE PHOTOGRAPHS IS THAT OF THE 61st CAVALRY.AS FAR AS I AM AWARE IT'S THE ONLY SURVIVING CAVALRY REGIMENT EXISTING IN THE WORLD TODAY.(I MAYBE WRONG SO WELCOME MORE GEN ON THIS ASPECT).ALTHOUGH THEIR DUTIES ARE LARGELY CEREMONIAL THE MEN OF 61st ARE ALL TRAINED PARAATROOPERS AND ARE ALSO TRAINED IN MECH WARFARE.

The Only Surviving Cavalry?

THE CAMEL MOUNTED TROOPS ARE ALSO UNIQUE IN THAT THEY PROBABLY ARE THE ONLY SURVIVING UNIT OF ITs KIND IN THE WORLD TODAY

We have the King's Troop of the Royal Horse Artillery, they are mainly ceremonial. And of course the Blues and Royals.:horsie:

I love the pictures. Specially the Amphibious Vehicle and the Camel Mounted Troops. But the quality of pictures itself is excellent. I wish I could live there and see the parade.
Hey what's that building in the background on that camel pic? Looks like Rome he he.
