War between Pakistan and India is out-of-consideration at current stage as demonstrated in 2002 border stand-off between them.

Since dangers of Nuclear Escalation are always there (although both sides focus on no-first strike policy) and world powers act as strong mediators like USA and Russia did in 2002.

But time will tell!

however i feel more then likely their will be a war between India and pakistan over Kashmir unless they try mediation with a major power as the 3rd negotiating party(Russia?)
I don't think any country could mediate in this issue here.Russia largely favors India and doesn't have the power as it did back in the Soviet era.

The US is the only remaining formidable force which could have a significant effect in resolving any dispute like this IMO.

However, India doesn't want any third party mediation in this case and the US recognizes the fact that both the countries involved are of much importance to it and doesn't wan to spoil its relations with any one of them if the talks go in favor of one and against the other.

But things are not that bad especially during this past 1 year with peace initiatives undertaken by people from both the countries.

I also think that the reason this deadlock exists is because both countries have formidable military capacities, I say this now as Pakistan has nuclear weapons too, and are not willing to accept the other's domination.

On the contrary this region is well in focus.
The Soviet invasion in Afghanistan, the Mujahideen guerilla war, Taliban, nukes, Kargil war, the war on terror.
Its so much into focus, that now Bush knows who the President of Pakistan is. After 9/11 he could only mumble....General eh?...He only forgets the Indian Prime Minister, damn democracy you know! The PM changes every 5 yrs.

The Indo-Pak dispute can only be solved by both the nations, 3rd party help is of no use.
It must be realised that feeding the hungry and development is more important than fighting over a principle of partition. The 'two nation' theory has been torn to shreds by the separation of East Pakistan.
It is stupid to fight.

Disregarding who is right and who is wrong in the matter of Kashmir, I can't help but be very impressed with the fact that Pakistan has not been completely obliterated many years ago. Seriously, consider the odds based on shear population: India - population 1,065,070,607 VS Pakistan - population 153,705,278. Those odds are ugly! About ten to one in favor of India! The surprising thing is that Pakistan has not been completely wiped out at some point. No doubt, this has a lot to do with a degree of restraint on India's part, but I think the world tends to overlook or forget the disproportionate odds that Pakistan faces.

Does'nt that tell you something?...That we don't want war. Pakistan needs to understand that, especially the govt.

Common people of both countries do not want war. And for the Pakistani defence, our armed forces are quiet capable of doing that and we need no reminders from anyone

Simple logic! our armed forces are quiet capable of meeting any kind of challenges and they are time-tested also.

And about Pak breakup that occured in 1971 was due to un-favourable Geo-political and Geographical situation

No offense, but Bangladesh is so thoroughly messed up that I don't know how much help they could have been if they WERE still part of Pakistan. Still WAY outnumbered if we add them in.

There was no geo-political situation that was unfavourale in East Pakistan in 1971. The mess was a creation of the Pak Army, genocide was what forced the bengali muslims to saparate. Indian factor came in only when the bengalis were being butchered. These are mentioned in books written by Pakistani army officers who were posted in East Pakistan. If you want links i'll give it to you. They are quite an eye opener.

But TBA_PAKI do you really think in case of an India - Pakistan war in the future, Pakistan would be victorious ?..

Can't you see a pattern from the past 4 wars ?

I did not want to bring up this war issue again , but looking at the last few comments from you I could not resist myself.

JOKE :
I read this somewhere, if the entire women populace of India stood on the Indo-Pak border and yelled at the same time, entire Pakistan would be blown away.
Personally! no side would be victorious but Indian army has more fire-arms so I think it is difficult to answer.

And I mentioned the facts that I understand about past 4 wars. Just read that post and you will see me not being Baised .

Though very few among us would do that (and as many among us will say that we won all the wars without looking at facts ) but I respect your thinking!
