India's foreign minister offered no assurances that his government is close to settling an internal squabble delaying progress on a landmark U.S.-Indian civil nuclear cooperation deal.
Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee met Monday with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and President Bush. The deal would allow the United States to send nuclear fuel and technology to India, even though India has refused to sign non-proliferation treaties and has tested nuclear weapons. India, in exchange, would allow international inspections of its civilian nuclear reactors. The United States has been pressing India to act by the end of May to give U.S. lawmakers enough time to consider the deal.
