Illinois Schools Canceling Christmas and Halloween to Avoid Offending Muslims

Another absolutely disgusting example of pre-emptive dhimmitude, in the name of tolerance and multiculturalism, right here in the US: First Jell-O, now Santa.
So long, Halloween parade. Farewell, Santa’s gift shop.

The holiday traditions are facing elimination in some Oak Lawn schools this year after complaints that the activities are offensive, particularly to Muslim students.

Final decisions on which of the festivities will be axed will fall to the principals at each of Ridgeland School District 122’s five schools, Supt. Tom Smyth said.

Parents expect that the announcement is going to add to the tension that has been building since officials agreed earlier this month to change the lunch menu to exclude items containing pork to accommodate Muslim students. News that Jell-O was struck from the menu caused such a stir that officials have agreed to bring it back. Gelatin is often made with tissue or bones of pigs or other animals.

That controversy now appears to have been been dwarfed by the holiday debate, which became so acrimonious Wednesday that police were called to Columbus Manor School to intervene in a shouting match among parents.

It’s difficult when you change the school’s culture,” said Columbus Manor Principal Sandy Robertson.

WHAT?! That is SUCH BULL:cens:! Oh man! I'm about as pissed as a fire ant right now. Oooo those Muslims need to suck it the :cens: up. Seriously. If they didn't want to deal with friggin!! Christmas, then they should just stay in the :cens:ed desert!

I think it is silly, but if they want to be respectful to Muslims, they should cancel all schools during their Ramadan holidays. :)

This is rather appalling. I can not stand that we as americans cant have our own things ,like christmas, without offending someone who believes different things. It is ok to be muslim or whatever else do what you wish, BUT DONT EVER TRY AND PUSH YOUR CRAP ON US! This is rediculuous and if i was a parent and my kids school tried to pull this garbage they sure as hell wouldnt be going there anymore.

^^^You have a seriously confusing name. LOL

That being said, I agree 100%. I'd be taking this to the school board with a parent grievance.

Whoa there!... don't just blame the Muslims, they never made the ruling, no doubt they would have informed people that they were offended, but the ultimate decision would have had to have been made by the State Department of Education surely, and I'll bet that there's not a single Muslim on the board.

This decision would have been made by non Muslims. Go and take out your dissatisfaction on the actual persons responsible.

Exactly, people will get away with whatever they are allowed to, the problem lies with the limp wristed wonders that get put on these boards.

Informed=Complained.

We don't complain about any of their cultural traditions, why should they complain about ours? Yes, the ultimate decision was made by non-Muslims, but without the Muslims there to complain, there wouldn't have been a problem. The true ultimate root of the problem in this case is the Muslims intolerance of American culture and the American political correctness willing to give a rat's :cens:.

Political Correctness is the poison of the western societies!

Yes,... at the moment it's very fashionable to blame Muslims for everything, unfortunately you won't resolve the problem unless you attack the cause. The Muslim's only did what was allowed under your law.

You are blaming persons for expressing their desires, when the actual problem is Political Correctness, not by the Muslims, but by your own elected representatives. If you don't attack the cause of the problem you can expect a lot more bad decisions in the future. Write to your congressman.

There is a proverb somewhere that states something to the effect, "It is futile to blame the darkness of night on the rising of the moon"

It's them making the laws, but again I say, if the Muslims had followed the rest of our laws(something to the effect of freedom of culture)then the PC wouldn't have even been put into place.

I have yet to see one law mandating that christmas partys must be held in schools. Please correct me if im wrong. In my opinion, the muslim community was in the right. Do they have ramadan parades? hanukkah parties? Id daresay not. So they are putting equivelant positions in for christian holidays. And to clarify, because the title is confusing, they arent eliminating christmas BREAK, they are eliminating christmas parties at school.

You re technically right but two things: 1- Muslims are living in a country where values are based on post-enlightenment Judeo-Christian ones. 2- The unfortunate thing with the muslim minority is that once you give them a bit of the ship, they'll later claim the entire ship. You gotta be careful with them

It's not whether they have them or not. It's the principal of the thing. It's the fact that if they wanted them, they COULD have them. America was based on freedoms right, so why can't we have a ruddy Christmas party at school as long as they potentially COULD have a Ramadan party?(Though seeing as how Ramadan is fasting, I don't know what we'd serve for appetizers...)

@ Pheonix

1.While this is true, the founding fathers in their wisdom decided upon religion equality. That means in a public forum either we celebrate every religion, or we celebrate none.

2. This statement could be made of any wave of immagration into the US or of many many religious and cultural groups to move into a country. Its not just the Muslims.

@Henderson

Did the article say whehter the school sanctioned Ramadan Parties? How about every obscure holiday from every religion on the planet. Schools dont even have enough school days in the year to celeberate every holiday for every religion. So if you cant have them all, then have none. Thats the way it is.
