If you are a traditional American...

I reckon that those people are very much in denial about most of the major developments worldwide. Besides that fact, a country becomes what you let it become. And they were as much in it as all others. If you truly believe in making a change, do so via democracy, rule of the people. And not by yelling: we will not be ruled no matter what the majority decides. We believe in democracy as long as it is how we want it. Very dangerous children with way too many guns!

as the next President in 2012. Read what HE has to say. He will let the rest of the world's nations chew themselves up like the Kilkenny dog and the Calico cat, while we laugh at YOUR antics, because you gutless wonders are not worth the spit it would take to clean our boots after kicking your butts back out of the U.S.A. Furthermore he would open the borders of the U.S.A. to every freedom loving person in the world, causing a brain drain that would leave only puling whiners outside our borders. Are you with me? Will you send us your freedom lovers in exchange for the gutless wonders who will love to kiss their government's metaphorical behind?

The truth is that a small government, family and therefore tribal oriented society with friendly neighbors and very few laws (including those regarding firearms) is impossible in large cities.
If you want that sort of life you just have to move to a very small town.
I also hail from a very small town which now should have a population of less than twenty and when I was there, everyone knew everyone (almost everyone was related to everyone), no one cared about the law and people got along or had conflicts and solved them based on personal relationships and values.
And no one tried to even force that sort of life into that town... it was simply that way because it was practically a village. The cops hardly ever showed up, you could drink at the age of twelve as long as the adults gave you some....

If you want that life, it's very easy, move to a very remote area.
You can practically scream at the government to come and take your guns and they won't because they won't be bothered to show up.

Your small government life is simply one move away.

Personally, I think it's a good deal and somewhere along the road I'm thinking it's going to be something I'm going to do.

Thank you SO MUCH for your EXPERT opinion DADDY FOREIGNER. BUTT OUT!

Last time I checked this forum was called 'international' and I can't recall saying I was an expert. But I guess this is how you prefer to discuss; vending your opinion as the only clad-iron truth and other opinions as something you don't want to hear. And here I am, as a foreigner, thinking that a discussion is something where different views could be expressed....

To quote the highly informative and historically accurate movie "The Water Boy - and this kids is why you should just say no to drugs".

Who are laughing at and which "gutless" wonders are we not spitting on?

I know I should really care but do you realise that a sizable proportion of this forums inhabitants are not in the USA?

Not to mention the owner of the site is a "Daddy Foreigner" (whatever that means). Perhaps he should "butt-out" as well?

Or maybe Claylc should grow a thicker skin in order to defend his weak argument from the many people who disagree with it, and at the same time read the forum rules about all opinions being welcome here. This isn't your site, you DON'T make the rules here.

I am so tired of arrogant and obnoxious loudmouths like him that give the rest of us Americans a bad name. For Christ Sake, if you can't be civil then STFU! You are embarrassing us.

I am sure you are familiar of the term "Ugly American".

Ugly American is an epithet used to refer to perceptions of loud, arrogant, demeaning, thoughtless and ethnocentric behavior of American citizens mainly abroad, but also at home.

As a proud American myself living abroad its a stereotype which I am sorry to say this does have a degree of truth. So when someone jackass leaves his manners in a pig-sty it merely reinforces all the negative opinions other people have about America, and embarrasses those of us trying to improve Americas image outside the US. Its no different that the football hooligans that have long wrecked the image of English Football.

Ill say it again: If you can't be civil then STFU!

Does this guy, or his cohorts, realize that the founding fathers, the writerd of the constitution, were essentially a bunch of crazy rebels? And a lot of them were sort of into Socialism. Look it up. Thomas Paine is a great example. And this isn't some hidden little secret. It's on freaking wikipedia.

What people don't realize is that socialism isn't that dirty a word. I have long argued that both economic philosophy extremes Capitalism on the right and Socialism on the left are bad. But people in America are ignorant, they think Socialism=communism or =national socialism. Couldn't be further than the truth. Capitalism can be just as oppressive as Socialism when its applied in its extreme.

Case in point: The economic sinkhole we are in was because of capitalism, and it was the governments intervention (like TARP, the auto-bailouts, the economic stimulous package etc) that is gradually bring us out.

I know some damn fine people from overseas Lonnie. I honestly don't think you know what you're talking about.
You say smack about them, not considering that they are no different than us Americans, and there's a bunch of us doing the same thing over there.

I don't agree, I can't honestly say in all my travels I have ever met anyone that falls into that category I have no doubt that there are some genuinely obnoxious people out there but they are from all over the world.

Where I think the USA has a major public relations problem is in the way you sell yourselves through media, basically you have the idiotic sitcom, the drunk, drug addled messes that form "Cops" or streets paved in gold view from Hollywood all of these views may exist in small packages but none of them are a genuine cross section of American life they are just snapshots of the same problems and qualities that all countries have.

As I have said before I think the American media is still trying to sell a stereotype America of the 1950's that no longer exists.

I feel it is true that a people as positive and successful as the Americans have proved themselves is bound to engender resentment around the world, particularly amongst those with very little to crow about. In terms of contribution to the world, I still see USA as the good guys on most scores; in a class of their own, no runners-up of note in sight.

God help us if and when they no longer rule the roost. Back to the dark ages when the primitives hold sway. Believe me, at this time, only USA makes the difference, all that you hold dear is currently guaranteed by America.

They now lead the way in taking on climate change, in the correct non-hysterical way, by driving enterprise and innovation.

In the cold light of day, God Bless America.:salute2:

Well,it's always somewhat possible to drop out and go to where nobody else is.
Otherwise, I seem pretty much ruled anytime i come to a red light. I reckon that since we vote and pick our government we kinda get what we deserve even if it may not be what we want. Somalia seems to be a place with no government to speak of. It don't seem a nice place to be. Could be I'm not very important cause nobody seems to much care about my day to day life....which feels just like freedom. Except for those traffic lights..and I'm fine with a few trade offs.

I have to wonder...is this satire?

Neil Smith...in that..says he's a one issue guy an that anyone ought to be free to go to the Gun supermarket and pick up some machine guns with no ID or any restraints.

:biggun:

Gotta admit I always thought a machine gun would be lot's of fun...but then I know some folks that are known to fly into a rage or get stupid drunk or just paranoid and jumpy. I know of people who'd go out in the back yard and "target practice" on beer bottles as if a .30 cal has no more range than a bb gun.

So....President Neil Smith wants anyone with the urge,or an axe to grind or some fantasy...to just get some guns...and I guess the fastest draw wins.:2guns:

like life would be a cowboy movie..but more firepower.

President Neil has no agenda in terms of jobs, the economy, infrastructure?
...then again...maybe reducing the population by 25% would solve quite a few things.

Guns are fine in a sensible context. I like to shoot.Trying to build some kind of religious cult around guys is pretty damn strange.

No worries RealNavy, I have met people like this before. But I also had the fortunate chance to live in the US for three years and I have met many wonderful people. But thank you nonetheless for your broader opinion and the will to use common sense!

I quite agree, all of us (Americans) are responsible, even if through our apathy. But we must be careful when "the majority decides" - the "majority" is very often wrong!
