Huh....The Anointed Messiah of us all now changes his mind about oil reserves

In a reversal, Barack Obama proposed Monday that the government sell 70 million barrels of oil from its strategic petroleum stockpile to help reduce gasoline prices.

Barack Hussien Obama is a complete RETARD, the Strategic Petroleum Stockpile, is for EMERGENCIES, not to bring down the price of gas 2 cents. The only reason currently to raid the reserve is in case a MAJOR source of oil was shut off from us. It's there in case of a complete oil embargo. Not the current price issue. To solve that we need to drill and supply ourselves with oil and at the same time develop useful alternative fuel sources. (Biofuel is not one of them.)

Obama also threw in so many qualifiers that he could and would easily cast aside the statement once in office.

Why is this an issue, according to the US Department Of Energy there have been four such sales in the last 20 years (1985, 1991,1997 and 2005) the only difference here is that this sale would be larger than the rest.

I had held the opinion that holding back on the use oil was a good thing. And at the moment we just do not know where the price or situation re oil is going. Not the time for such a move. We pay something like $15 per gallon already here, even tho' 70% of it is tax.

So we drill now for oil we can't use until my kids are in High School. Because that makes so much sense.

Why do Americans still think that we can lower gas prices? They're only going to go up from this point onward. Right now we have a little break, but I strongly doubt it'll last more than a year, if that. Tapping into our reserve is just a temporary reprieve. We need nuclear power and a hydrogen infrastructure.

What makes people think that it will take forever to get the oil?

The Trans-Alaska Pipeline was a huger undertaking that people said would take forever. Here are some facts about that little project.

  • The Trans Alaska Pipeline System was designed and constructed to move oil from the North Slope of Alaska to the northern most ice-free port in Valdez, Alaska.
  • Length: 800 miles.
  • Diameter: 48 inches.
  • Crosses three mountain ranges and over 800 rivers and streams.
  • Cost to build: $8 billion in 1977, largest privately funded construction project at that time.
  • Construction began on March 27, 1975 and was completed on May 31, 1977.
  • First oil moved through the pipeline on June 20, 1977.
  • Over 15 billion barrels have moved through the Trans Alaska Pipeline System.
  • First tanker to carry crude oil from Valdez: ARCO Juneau, August 1, 1977.
  • Tankers loaded at Valdez: 19,625 through April 30, 2008.
  • Storage tanks in Valdez- 18 with total storage capacity of 9.1 million barrels total.
  • The mission of Alyeska’s Ship Escort Response Vessel System is to safely escort tankers through Prince William Sound.
It took three years. THREE YEARS. To cross the State of Alaska for a pipe. We know where most of the oil is. We can get to it if we go after it and have the will power. For God's Sake.... We went to the Moon in less then ten years after JFK said so. Before his speech, NASA wasn't even planning on trying in the 1960s.

It just takes a little bit of effort and will power. But I guess that is no longer part of the American Spirit.

Here are some facts about economics/construction. It requires several years to get together the necessary resources to construct a oil rig and then to build it, especially if it is a floating rig. Then, when it is finally constructed, you take a few months to drill down to the correct depth and actually begin pumping the crude. Then, when the crude actually hits the market, it does not even make a scratch. Why? Because 400000 barrels of oil out of a market of billions if not trillions is nothing. So, maybe 5 years down the line, it will have pumped enough crude out of the ground to have lowered the gas prices by 1%. Then, 20 years down the line when the pocket of oil is exhausted, the rig gets to sit there doing nothing.

Instead, you construct oil refineries. They are no where near as complicated to construct, you just need space. They take 1/2 the time to build, and you see an immediate decrease in the cost of oil (since there is excess crude sold, most of it gets stockpiled). Then, 30+ years down the line, the refinery is still in use. Hell, every single one of the refineries in the US are more then 30 years old right now.

Im going to go with not only the long term but also the short term solution - Option 2.

F*ck it. Let's stop this pretensions of being holy etc. Adultery. Legalize the damned thing. Apparently everyone else is doing it.

Honestly, I agree. I don't care if my president sleeps with his wife, mistress or dog, whether he's Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or Satanic, if he's a good president then I'm happy.

don't know about the Satanic stuff... haven't met one that has his sh*t together.
But overall I don't see what the big deal is anymore.
I don't like the fact that people have to hide all the damned time just because society thinks it's wrong for someone to have sex.
No one knows the full story. Maybe he and the wife don't love each other but depend on each other for political power and standing. In that case I don't know why he has to sneak away. If he and his missus love each other... well, I'm sure the missus can sort him out.
