EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Chicago's Devin Hester tied an NFL record by returning a missed field goal 108 yards for a touchdown in the Bears' game against the New York Giants on Sunday night.
Jay Feely tried a 52-yard attempt that fell short and Hester caught the ball in the back of the end zone. After hesitating briefly and casually walking to the front of the end zone, Hester took off and sprinted down the right sideline.
Led by a handful of blocking teammates, Hester scooted 108 yards past a stunned group of Giants to put the Bears up 31-20 with 11:20 in the fourth quarter.
On Nov. 13, 2005 - almost exactly a year ago - the Bears' Nathan Vasher caught Joe Nedney's missed 52-yard field-goal attempt in the back of the end zone on the final play of the first half for a 108-yard TD return. The play helped Chicago beat San Francisco 17-9.
The NFL's previous longest play was Baltimore's Chris McAlister's 107-yarder with a missed field goal in 2002.
