I have passed assessment day!

Good news everyone!

Assessment day went well for me (Most important day for recruitment). It was long and tiring, but worth it. The first thing was a medical assessment, where they measured height, weight, test sight, hearing and so forth. But when i met a doctor, things felt degrading. The cough treatment was something that felt odd to go through but what was the weirdest thing was that i had to 'waddle' like a duck in my underwear. I believe it was to test my leg strength and such. Speaking of leg strength, there seems to be a complication. It was something i didn't notice until now, but didn't worry me, however the doctor was concerned. The doctor moved my left leg up and down when i was lying on a bed. For some reason my hip always makes a clicking noise when that is done. Unfortunatly i was told to see a Orthopedic civilian doctor just to check it out (A civilian one). He told me its likely nothing bad since it doesn't hurt, nethertheless he wants to be sure that its nothing that would degrade performance in the military.

The psychology examination was straight forward, nothing went wrong, just some simple questions about family and being away from them. What i found funny is when the defence interviewer who is a warrant officer walked into the room where all the recruits, including me were and yelled out loud "alright, who is the armour enthusiast here"? I just placed my hand high in the air and said "That will be me" with a smile. The interview went well, just he wanted me to be a little more direct with questions. Overall he was satisfied with what i have said and recommended me into all three preferences in the army, which are M113 crewman, ASLAV Crewman and Leopard MBT crewman. So at the end, i walked with him to the reception and everyone congratulated me there.

Im pleased that everything went well but its annoying how i have to see some specialist for bone joints.

sweet...i'll be on the beach with....well, what ever we have left hahahahahaha

I will bring the BBQ and a few beers if it will help.

No point in going to a beach without the essentials.

Congratulations on that!
Funny thing was our equivilent of that physical was taken in FEBRUARY. It's friggin' may now. lol. Well I took the 2nd physical over a month ago... results pending to the end of this month.

Might want to ammend that to Abrams crewman. Remember the leopards are being mothballed as we speak.

Thanks guys. After hearing that there will be abrams in South Australia, im more interested in taking possibly the abrams path. However it all depends if they need extra crewman.

Now would be a good chance to get in on the ground floor with the Abrams. By the way, the Abrams would not be permenant in SA. They would be a single sabre squadron (that is a "fighting" squadron) on a rotating roster at Cultana range. 1st Armoured Reg would still be based in Darwin. They'd have 1 sabre squadron at Cultana training, 1 Sabre squadron in Darwin under repairs/maintenance, and 1 sabre squadron on ready reaction, so you'd spend approx a 3rd of your time in SA. Plus a lot of rail travel.

When I joined the US Army at 17 I had shallow hip sockets that allowed for more than normal movement, very similar to what you described. Because they were shallow my leg could come out of socket easier than normal and it had in the past. I was told that with strengthening that the muscles would hold it in place which it did. I did have to get a medical waiver and that took like 6 weeks to get approved but it did. So unless yours are really screwed up you'll probably be fine.

Well im so far torn between ASLAV and M1abram. Both are great really. Its a pity the M1's aren't staying in SA. :(

It sounds that this hip thing is quite common. I also know someone else who has the same thing. He was lucky they didn't detect it though. So it took you 6 weeks to see somone! Im lucky enough to get an appointment in 2 weeks.

If you want to get posted overseas go to 2 cav, if you want to spend your life in Australia go to 1st Armoured. We don't like to send tanks overseas, ever.... or not since Vietnam at least.
