The guys in SF

And yet again you misunderstand me, if you thuink for one minute that I get out of a aircraft fire at somebody and stand there looking while people sre shooting either (1) misunderstood me (2) are reading into it thinking I make it up ( 3) are so dam stupid you think navy people stay on ships. But liek I said I don;t give a rats flying ass weather or not you or anybody else believes m. I know where, when, and what I did. I need your, or anybody else, approval and acceptance like I need God Dam hemorrhoid.

Go back and read your own posts, this is exactly what you said. Also , it would benefit you to use spellcheck, and proofread your posts so that you do not look "so dam stupid". It`s "damn" by the way. I`ve worked with the Navy plenty of times, I know who leaves a ship, and who doesn`t. You should be proud of your time in the military regardless of what you did, and stop embellishing the truth.

"I`ll be kind, and say that you`re embellishing your accomplishments. Saying things like you secured landing zones for SF troops so that they could land, is ludicrous."

Didn't you know? Army SF regularly has non grunts secure LZs for them. I mean, they're only SF, they wouldn't know the first thing about going into a hot LZ. It's a wonder they've managed to survive in SOCOM this long, oh those silly Greeny Beannies!

Hey 160th, In your experience working in the Specops community, how often would you say an ODA is inserted hot with someone OTHER than the 160th?

The overwhelming majority of the time, the 160th does it. At the time I was in, the unit was much smaller. It`s now 4 battalions and can provide much more support.

Quite often, actually. 160th isn't big enough to support all ODAs and priorities still exist even within the SOF community. What may have been the case during 160th's time is no longer and hasn't been for a bit. And now that the Paves are gone, it's even harder to find those special rides.

Joint task forces are inserted with the air assets available.
Not an exclusivly US thing either any more..
And I agree with PJ, the Paves where a huge reason why it went to the US table to insert.

Yes PJ24, I`ve been out for many years. It appears my information is dated, my apologies.

Had a mate get inserted by nightstalkers during TF K-bar, he still to this day think it was one of the most impressive infils he has been on.
They got dropped on a mountainpeak no larger then 3X5 meters by a 47.
Never touched ground, but the drop stepping off the ramp where no higher then your average feet rail in a bar.

You have every right to be proud of your former reg´t.

Have a nice day.

Thanks KJ, I appreciate that.

OMG ! Just by reading this exchange one could surmise: so then, SF knowledgeable persons are ALSO just like every other high-schooler with garden variety hang-up "issues" about one's competence ! Another shattered myth ! (More realistically however, I am thinking, this type of "childish"-immature conversation level, is more likely due to the on-line communication medium, where we are all caricaturized and infantilized, whether we want it or not.)

...don't shoot !...don't shoot !...I didn't mean to offend or belittle anyone, especially not SF guys !...there realistically exists a possibility I could have been just kidding !

(this coming from a guy with absolutely no aptitude for any type of SF type operations, hence I permit myself to just comment at expert-analyst level on everything pertaining to them !)

Hi, I just want to know is their a big difference with grunts like in the Army and Marines, compared to the SF guys, Seals, Berets, etc? I mean as in their attitude personality. I've met a few soldiers and marines, but wanted to know if their is a difference between them and the mentality and attitude of the SF guys?

I don't know about the SF'ers today, and I mean the originals - the US Special Forces, but from the beginning these were more aimed at "special" missions which weren't necessarily combat missions in the sense that they should destroy a target or enemy unit, like Seals or Delta forces missions.

The SF missions in Vietnam, for example, was much about cooperation with the population in strategic areas and long-range reconnaissance. In Europe they trained (in Norway, anyway) for eventual future cooperation with stay-behind resistance groups in an (Soviet.....;)....) occupied country. They were very versatile in that the 12-man teams consisted of pairs of differently trained specialists. The team leader would normally have captain's rank.
