The Guy Took Care of His Troops...

IN 1952 a friend of mine named Bill served aboard the Presidential yacht USS Williamsburg. One frigid winter morning while Bill was on deck watch, President Truman came up from below for some fresh air. He asked Bill his name and hometown and, after more small talk, observed, "You look cold, son. Why don't you go down to the galley and get a cup of hot coffee?"

"I can't, sir," Bill replied. "I'm not allowed to leave my post."

President Truman grabbed Bill's rifle and commanded, "Go on down! Tell them Harry sent you! I'll stand guard."
