Gurkhas again betrayed by UK government.

Our current stinking government in the UK has once again shamed us as a decent country. As soon as a judge's verdict on the weakness of their case of refusing to allow the Gurkhas to live here was released, the slimy b******* have raised new criteria that the Gurkhas have to meet.

The worst aspect of this is that they must have served 20 years with the British army, when it is common knowledge that privates are only allowed to serve 15 years as Gurkhas.

Winners of the VC and George Cross can qualify, those ONLY mentioned in despatches for outstanding bravery cannot!

Our government claims that they are letting 10,000 in, but Gurkhas' lawyers tell us that this is only 4000 + families. This has caused outrage and outcry here, where our people want all Gurkhas who served for reasonable periods to have automatic right to live here. (Commonwealth troops, for example, must have served for 4 years.)

The government complains that this would mean allowing entry to 100,000 Gurkhas including families, a pinprick compared with the population millions they have imposed upon us from alien areas of the world without mercy or concern for any objections.

We want to welcome the Gurkhas with open arms; they are betrayed by the same traitors who are betraying us.

If Gurkhas were white, this would have never happened.
Or if they kept blowing up buses.
Either way seems to work.

Fine world we're living in.
The good people will always be the suckers in the end.
The cowards will make sure of this.

How bloody typical of bureaucrats & politicians, they're never ones to get out in the field for the dirty work themselves, but they've not got a problem shafting those who put themselves on the line in defence of the Commonwealth....

I remember back to when HK was handed back to the PRC, prior to the handover, Gippsland RSL, (in Victoria, Australia), petitioned the Federal Government, (then under the control of that republican ar$ehole Paul Keating), to allow the Ghurka battalion then deployed to Hong Kong to withdraw to Victoria, (together with their dependants)... As I understand it, the Ghurka's & their officers were fully prepared to continue serving as part of the ADF, (and I'm sure the UK would've have been able to facilitate the changeover), but of course, our PM and his socialist cronies didn't want a bar of anyone who had the temerity to represent the best the Commonwealth had to offer....

No matter the country, you can always depend on a politician or a bureaucrat to stick it to you..........

And then when volunteers turn out to be far and few they wonder what's going on, appeal to "patriotism".... I'm so sick of everything.
Like I said, if the Gurkhas were white this wouldn't have happened to them. Unfortunately to the higher ups, they're just stupid, expendible gooks.

Remember Benedict Arnold? He was instrumental in America's fight for independence, got shafted a few times and a few times more and then eventually switched sides and fought for the British.
And then his name became synonymous for traitor.

Yeah - the Gurkhas reckon the new criteria will result in only 100 of them qualifying! And yes, my post was accurate; I will post refs. later - they came after mine! I do not think the Brits will wear this nonsense. They love the Gurkhas and all they stand for.. .

Edit : Here are some refs as promised.

This is a damned shame.
Gurkhas have served the crown, just like anybody else who served..

This is a national disgrace, bordering on treason. All manner of people have been allowed citizenship, provided they do a stint in uniform. Yes they are members of commonwealth countries - but they get the chance why not the Gurkhas?

I would recommend that any UK or expats sign in here & add their voice - it'll probably be ignored, but still make a noise.

Sad to say that my homeland is not what it was - glad that I'm not there, 'cos Nov 5 plot would be a reality.

I hear ya. Volunteers are THE most valuable human resource out there, yet at the same time the most disrespected.

Exactly. But I won't call them gooks. Gooks is a slur for vietnamese. People mistake it for other asians, or people they don't like. Like when I was in the army, "skinnies" was a common slur.

Ihave met so so few people that know that about Benedict. We worked long and hard and for what? His dream, of course. A free country. But then he got screwed over time and time again, and when he brought the improprieties to light, ridiculed. IIRC there were a few battles that the colonists won, that were a result of Benedict's marvelous skill, yet instead some jackass general snags it.

Sounds like today's army, now that I think of it.

I meant "gook" to make it clear what the government officials think of them. I'm actually Asian myself. If black folks can call themselves with the "n" word, I should be able to use the "g" word, but remember, you can't say that. ;)

Someone else grabbing the credit etc. That's just universal. Across the globe and in every profession.

Thank you so much for your support of the Gurkha Justice campaign. We are overwhelmed by the support the campaign is receiving.

As you may know, on Friday, the Government badly let down the Gurkhas. The new rules they have announced will exclude the huge majority of ex-Gurkhas who retired before 1997 from claiming citizenship in this country. They've given five bullet points that virtually cannot be met by the ordinary Gurkha soldier.

It is so obvious that the treatment of the Gurkhas has been a great injustice. To treat them like this is despicable.

The strong reaction by the public and press should show the Government that they simply cannot get away with this outrage.

I'm ashamed of our adminstration. We will be challenging this decision in the courts and in Parliament. We will not stop now.

This is not a party political campaign: it's simply one for justice. I am so grateful though for immediate support from MPs from all Parties, including amongst others Conservative leader David Cameron and Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg.

Nick Clegg has agreed to put a vote to Parliament this Wednesday calling for a fair deal for Gurkhas. This vote on its own won't change the Government's ruling, but would be an overwhelming signal to the Government that they need to think again.

We need all MPs that support the Gurkha justice cause to turn up and vote for a proper deal for Gurkhas on Wednesday. Can I ask that you take a couple of minutes right now to ask your MP to do so?

You can send a message to your MP directly at www.theyworkforyou.com - please ask them to support the Gurkha Justice motion on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, there will also be a Gurkha Justice rally and protest against the Government's decision, starting at noon in Old Palace Yard, Westminster. Many MPs have already committed to support the vote and join me and others at the rally. I know it's awfully short notice, but if you can, please do come along as well to add your support.

If you can pass on this message to others as well that would be fabulous - and if they sign up to www.gurkhajustice.org.uk we can keep in touch with them directly in future.

Lastly, again, thank you so much for your support. It means so much to us. I spoke today to Lt Madan Kumar Gurung, who has been at the forefront of the campaign since it began. He said to me that he has no fear for the Gurkhas any more, as he knows the loving hearts of the British people will not let them down. With your support we won't.

With warmest good wishes,

Joanna

I may not have this entirely correct but I believe the slang term gook came from the Korean War era when Korean kids first saw Americans they said Miguk (English sound of actual Korean language word meaning American). The American soldiers not knowing anything about Korean language, thought the kids were saying "me gook" or in the correct English "I am a gook." In fact the gook or guk sound is in almost all Korean words for nationalities; for example Chinguk for Chinese, Hanguk for Korean, etc. The term gook eventually took on a much nastier connotation as the Korean War progressed and in later years was applied derogatively to any Asian.

My two cents.

tomtom you are 100% correct.
The common misconception amongst many is that it is a variation of a Vietnamese word because it appears in so many Vietnam War films.
The other word also mistaken often is Bookoo. A lot of people think it's Vietnamese but it's actually French. Beaucoup.
