BAGHDAD, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Unknown gunmen assassinated an Iraqi police
officer on Sunday morning in western Baghdad, police said.
"Major Naser Hamid, a police officer was gunned down by unknown armed men
near the tunnel of Nafaq al-Shurta in western Baghdad," Captain Ahmed
Abdullah from Baghdad police told Xinhua.
The attack took place at about 9:50 a.m. (0650) as Hamid was driving to
his work in the Doura police station in southern part of the capital,
Abdullah said.
Another person, who was accompanying Hamid, was wounded in the attack,
Abdullah added.
Insurgents frequently target Iraqi police and government officials in a
bid to topple the Shiite-dominated government.
