A Can of Man
Je suis aware
What do you think is the best protection against this for folks that are not LEOs?
You should correct yourself. I know in Colorado the written law says one thing, but the judicial law says another.

That's not what we're questioning.
The question is: will that action result in us being put away for a good ten or twenty years behind bars?
Great advice... Thanks boss. I always make a run through of the house to make sure all our doors are locked before I go to bed... I can't sleep if I haven't done it.Against Home Invasion? Good locks, good doors and frames, alarm systems, outside lighting, good locks and possibly barriers on windows, a plan and cordless phones (multiple).
Situational awareness is the best. Put a peephole in your door and keep the light on so you know who's on the other side.
If you have a firearm get quality training including training in the legal aspects of self defense in your state!!!!! Ignorance of the law is not a defenseable position in court!!!!!
If you use lethal force know this. The police will question you, a report will be made, it will be forwarded to the District Attorney for review. I'm gonna do this....whether I believe it was a good shoot or not, it will be investigated. You might want to look into pre-paid legal just in case several companies offer policies.
For Civil Suits? Get some pre-paid legal you will be sued just assume it.
Mate, common law is how the legal system of the US works in all 50 states, save Louisiana which works off statutory law. Shall I go chapter and verse on ya? Do a google on it or talk to any law student or LEO... its why lawyers in our court system search for and quote precedents when presenting their cases. :mrgreen:Common law is not recognized by state courts very often, if ever.
Technicly speaking most State's Laws are based on English Common Law, Louisiana's is based on the Napolionic Code, but way removed from both now.Mate, common law is how the legal system of the US works in all 50 states, save Louisiana which works off statutory law. I pay $17 a month for Pre-Paid Legal (of Ada, OK), and I can't say I'm real impressed.
Shame in Australia the laws are pathetic. If somebody breaks into your house your not allowed to hit them or even TOUCH them, let alone shoot them with a f**king gun.
And remember, dead perps don't testify at grand jury hearings.
