SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands, Dec 22 (AFP) - A second Guam soldier has
been killed while serving in Iraq, the office of congresswoman Madeleine
Bordallo said in the US central Pacific territory Thursday.

Details of how the soldier was killed were not released.

"Although military officials have not released official information on the
loss of Guam's son, Richard Naputi Jr, of Talofofo, his family has confirmed
the loss of this native son," Bordallo said in a statement.

Another Guam soldier, Jaygee Meluat, died in Iraq in September last year.

Two soldiers from the neighbouring Northern Marianas Islands were killed in
Iraq in October.

Meanwhile, the families of Northern Marianas reservists sent to Iraq and
Afghanistan in 2004 were to return home next February after an 18-month
deployment.

Guam, with a population of 168,000, is the westernmost US territory and lies
about 1,500 miles (2,500 kilometres) south of Japan.
