Hello everyone! I am not a military man, but many in my family tree proudly served their country in the US Armed Services.

My great-great grandfather, Adjutant William Beynon Phillips served in the American Civil War as an officer in the 2nd. PA Provisional Heavy Artillery. His unit was attached to the Ninth Army Corps commanded by Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside. Prior to his capture at the Battle of the Crater on July 30, 1864 he participated in the monumental battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg.

My father, Pfc. William Wellington Taylor, Jr. was a member of the 100th. Infantry Division, 399th. Regiment, Co.A. His Division was on the battle line for 175 consecutive days in France and Germany and was the first modern army to conquer an enemy defending the Vosges Mountains.

To honor my ancestors I have started 2 blogs. Their stories, as told through their letters home can be read at http://taylorletters.blogspot.com and
http://letters1862-1864.blogspot.com . I hope you will check them out.
