I think I recall reading that killing animals was one of young Jeffery Dahmer's pastimes.

This is not entirely true. When he was really young he enjoyed collecting the bones of small animals in a can, as he grew into his teenage years he began collecting road kill. He made his first kill (on a human) when he was 18.
