German Elections

Looks to me that there has to be a higher margin to claim a mandate which would mean another election. Someone from Germany, help!
 
The chancellor is elected by the parliament, so its not absolutely necessary that the chancellor is from the largest faction (its the normal case though). If Schroeder could convince the liberals to form a coalition with the socialists and greens (so called stoplight coalition), he could be reelected for chancellor. But thats not going to happen, the Liberals made this clear before and after the vote and they are totally opposed to the policy of the current government.

For the other option, a grand coalition with the christian democrats, its ludicrous to claim the position of chancellor for the smaller party. Probably he was high on cocaine yesterday in the discussion, he interrupted everyone, insulted the moderators and made a complete fool out of himself.
