G'Day from Canberra, Land of Oz

I'm a proud son of a US Army soldier/officer. William Allen Wright W904222 (his last of 3 ID #'s) joined up in 1925 (lied about his age, served in California) to be in Cavalry which was disbanded and whose men were put into the new Army Air Corps ("Hell, all Cav are crazy cowboys anyway" was the Colonel's reasoning) Rejoined in 1938, served in tanks, Intel (post war Germany), CID (Korea) until early retirement in 1963. In 1961 while working at SHAPE near Paris (any old SHAPE Indians baseball players or fans out there?) Dad bundled us into his Peugeot 403 and drove to Omaha Beach. We then proceeded to Aachen (Aix) where he got shot up really badly (ambushed by SS Panzers out of diesel and dug in as artillery platforms). We boys were suitably impressed by actually seeing the places we'd heard about. Dad had two Silver Stars, four Purple Hearts and Commendations with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. Great soldier, terrible fierce father.
