GD Wins Army Stryker, Abrams Tank Orders

General Dynamics won an Army order valued at as much as $1.2 billion for Stryker troop transports used in Iraq. The order covers production and maintenance of 615 Stryker transports and carries an initial value of $599 million, the Falls Church company said. The vehicles are to be delivered by May 2011.
General Dynamics also received a $614 million Army contract to upgrade 235 Abrams battle tanks. The upgraded tanks will have improved color displays, day and night thermal sights, auxiliary power and tank-infantry phones. They also will be able to adapt to technology improvements, including the Army's Future Combat Systems.
General Dynamics also said its board authorized the repurchase of as many as 10 million shares.
