FRESNO — A 20-year-old Marine who recently returned from his first tour in Iraq was arrested Monday on suspicion of killing his infant son, police said.
Robert Quiroz was taken into custody at his home, Fresno police said.
Police found his son, 3-month-old Roman Quiroz, unconscious about 9:45 p.m. Saturday. The child was taken to a hospital, where he later died of massive blunt force trauma, authorities said.
Quiroz was called home in August because his wife was suffering complications during her pregnancy, police said. He assumed full custody of the baby after his wife died in childbirth.
The couple's 18-month-old child has been placed in protective custody.
