BAGHDAD, Nov 11 (AFP) - Four people were wounded in a drive-by shooting at
the Oman embassy in Baghdad on Friday, hours after US Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice called on more Arab countries to open embassies in Iraq.
Gunmen wounded two embassy employees, one Omani and one Sudanese, along with
two Iraqi guards, an interior ministry official said.
Speaking at a news conference in Baghdad, Rice had called on Arab nations to
support Iraq by condeming terrorism and establishing diplomatic relations
with Iraq.
"There are many embassies and ambassadors here, but not enough from the Arab
world," she said.
Over the past few months, the group of Al-Qaeda's frontman in Iraq, Abu
Musab al-Zarqawi, has claimed responsibility for the killing of an Egyptian
envoy to Iraq, along with the kidnap and murder of two Algerian diplomats.
Gunmen also attempted to assassinate Bahrain's envoy and Pakistan's
ambassador prompting Islamabad to move him to Amman.
