BAGHDAD, Oct 11, 2006 (AFP) - Four more US soldiers have been killed in
action in Iraq, coalition headquarters said Wednesday, bringing the number
of troops to have died in what is already a bloody month to 40.

"Three marines assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division died Monday
from enemy action while operating in Al Anbar Province," a statement said.

Anbar is the lawless Sunni portion of western Iraq which has become the
focus of an insurgency fighting under the Al-Qaeda banner.

Meanwhile, a second statement said: "A Multinational Division Baghdad
Soldier died at approximately 2.15am today from wounds he received when his
patrol was struck by an improvised-explosive device in central Baghdad."

The deaths bring the number of US servicemen killed in action or from other
causes during the Iraq operation since March 2003 to 2,749, according to an
AFP count based on Pentagon figures.
