"Why are People so hell bent on trying to dodge reality?"
Sukio, I don't want to get too political, but I think the answer to your question lies there. Since the invasion of Iraq, The left (along with the center-left media) has been obsessed with hating Pres. Bush ... to the point people began calling it Bush Derangement Syndrome" or BDS.
Now, it's not enough that he's out of office and can't come back. They have to fundamentally dismantle the centerpiece of his administration: "The War on Terror." Steps taken include:
1) Renaming "Terrorist Attacks" as the completely ridiculous: "Man-Caused Disasters."
2) Closing GITMO (even though we don't know what to do with the prisoners).
3) Closing down military tribunals and transferring jihadist suspects to NYC for jury trials ... which most people think is just insanity.
4) The current President wanting to sit down and talk to nutjobs like Ahmadinejad of Iran ... even though we know he's lying to us and funding just about every anti-US group in existence.
5) The withdrawl from Iraq was already underway and you can see how reluctant Obama is to send more troops to Afghanistan ... despite the left saying this was the
correct war to fight when we were actively engaged in Iraq a few years ago.
No matter what, if Bush was for it, we now have to be 180 degrees against it ... even if it makes no sense.
So, when someone with the name "Nadal Malik Hasan" flips out, shouts "Allahu Akbar" and kills over a dozen U.S. soldiers and wounds over twice as many more, it
cannot be an act of terrorism or Islamic extremism. It
must be something else ... ANYTHING ELSE! We'll invent the term "2nd Hand PTSD" and say it was caused by the evil war Bush started. Or maybe Hasan was the victim of taunts by bigoted right-winger Texans. Hasan had easy access to firearms and couldn't handle the stress. Hasan was just plain nuts, etc ... It
has to be ANYTHING but an act tied to terrorism.
Now, you can hate Bush. That's fine with me, but please hate his policies for substantive reasons and come up with well thought out alternatives. This continued BDS and the reflexive anti-war-on-terror nonsense is just insanity ... and it's getting good people killed.
The left in the US wants to pretend we are not at war with Islamo fascism ... which is just the mentality that gave us September 11.
Jonah Goldberg wrote a decent column about this topic as well:
