New Jersey officials announced yesterday that they would send almost half the New Jersey Army National Guard’s 6,200 soldiers to Iraq by next summer, in one of the state’s biggest troop deployments since World War II. Speaking at an event at the Fort Dix military base, Gov. Jon S. Corzine and Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth, the state’s adjutant general, said that the state’s 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team would begin training immediately and that 2,700 soldiers could be ready by next summer for a mobilization expected to last one year. Mr. Corzine said that the soldiers’ deployment could hamper the state’s antiterrorism efforts.
