FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE ENDORSES MCCAIN!!!
Nominee has the "full support" of the nation's largest police labor organization

Chuck Canterbury, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, today announced the organization' s endorsement of Senator John S. McCain III for the office of President.

"The FOP carefully considered the records and the responses of both candidates and, in our evaluation, Senator McCain will provide greater leadership for our country and for our nation's law enforcement officers," Canterbury said. "We will be proud to stand behind him this November, and to stand with him for the next four years."

For a candidate to receive the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, he must receive a two-third majority of the National Board, which is made up of one Trustee from each of the organization' s State Lodges.

"Our National Board, and the more than 327,000 members of the FOP, acquainted themselves with Senator McCain's record, and, after meeting with him face to face in July, he made it very clear that he is with us on the issues most important to our members," Canterbury said. "Like our members, he sees issues through the eyes of someone that has been on the front lines. That is exactly the kind of perspective, and the kind of leadership, that we need in the White House."

Canterbury cited Senator McCain's strong support for the FOP's efforts to amend the Law Enforcement Officers' Safety Act and pledged to work with the organization in crafting our nation's law enforcement policy.

"Senator John McCain is a proven leader with a clear record of support for the men and women who put their lives on the line–just as he did–to defend our communities and our nation," Canterbury said. "I am proud to offer the Senator our endorsement today and I look forward to working with the McCain Administration over the next four years."

Well damn... Now I have to go and take back my statement... "Police don't know party lines." Way to blow that one out of the water... LMAO... Talk about timing.

I am extremely pleased, as a life member of the organization, I am very proud of them and their leadership.
Ooh Rah.
Vote Republican!

As a member of both the FOP and the PBA I am glad that the FOP has thrown their support behind John McCain and Sarah Palin. But I am against the FOP doing so. I am against Unions becoming involved in politics. Because many unions go against their members. For me this is biter sweet. Yes, McCain is a better candidate in my opinion to support Law Enforcement but I am against Unions getting involved in politics and especially police unions doing so.

Is there a news story or is this another e-mail?

The FOP is a major Police Union. This is the same as the United Auto Workers throwing their support behind a candidate. When a Union supports a candidate, many of it's members will support that candidate. Sadly some people are to stupid and they need their unions to make their choices for them.

Is it any different than a Major Corporation like Ford or Boeing supporting a Candidate? Companies might not OPENLY declare their political allegiances, but its pretty obvious to figure out which they prefer by the campaign contributions they donate, where their Lobbiests are, and so on. Seems like the samething to me.

Yeah but it's the police.
The military and the police are not supposed to make such statements publicly and is supposed to stay as neutral as it can in terms of who runs the government. That's the issue right there.

I agree, I really don't like any corporate/union endorsement of parties but I would be even less enthusiastic when a countries security agencies start picking sides.

I'm aware of what the FOP is. I'm asking where you got this information.

The police and military is not required to be queit on who they prefer. They are required to be tactful and obey orders by whomever is elected however.

That's the truth and we are also not supposed to voice any political opinions while we are on duty, in uniform, or while representing the agency/branch of service at any function.

Off Duty we can do what we want.
