A former civilian employee of the U.S. Naval Academy was sentenced yesterday to 27 months in prison for stealing steaks and ribs from the academy in Annapolis and being a felon in possession of a gun.
Gerard Hyman, 34, was a food services employee at King Hall, where meals are prepared for midshipmen. Prosecutors said he was seen taking boxes of food from the trash in December. None of the food should have been thrown away.
The food was valued at more than $3,500. Prosecutors said Hyman also had a stun gun in the car and a box with 20 unfired cartridges. A previous drug conviction and handgun violation prohibited him from possessing any firearm.
