First Confession

Padre

Milforum Chaplain
A priest was being farewelled at a parish dinner and the other guest of honour, the Mayor, was running very late.

It was getting very late so the priest decided to give his speech rather than wait for the Mayor, and told the very large crowd how his first impresssions of the township were based on the first confession he heard soon after arriving at the church 6 years ago, and it was not a very good impression because his first confessee listed his sins as stealing and extorting huge sums of money from local businesses, cheating on his taxes, having had people abducted and tortured, and cheating on his wife with a different woman every week. But, the priest said, after a few weeks in the parish he discovered how wonderful and law-abiding the local people were and not at all like the wicked person who was his first confessee.

Then the Mayor arrived and the band played and people rose in applause, and after clapping the Mayor the priest sat down. The Mayor took the microphone straight away. He apologised for his lateness due to an important civic matter and then began to praise the priest and say how much the community would miss him, and then he added that it was such an honour to have been the first person in the town to have gone to Father's Confessional.

The hall went silent. :hide:
