Firearms Possession discussion (in response to yet another US shooting)

Unfortunate for us all, we politicized this topic from day one in this country, and attached a very fundamental right to it, now to repeal it will open an avenue to violate the others we have left.

A mistake, maybe, but I am sure that the founding father's never foreseen assault rifles for private use either. Pull the rug under this one then what's next?

The thing is we all agree that the problem is crazies with guns and I am prepared to bet that everyone supports the idea that firearms should be restricted to sane law abiding citizens and I would suggest that if firearms are restricted to sane law abiding citizens then there is no need for restrictions on what types of firearms are available to them.

So the only question that needs to be answered is "How do we stop firearms getting into the hands of lunatics and criminals" and not one of these people are seemingly prepared to front up and answer this, they are all too busy getting paranoid about the prospect that they may have to actually follow some rules that they wont look at the problem objectively enough to understand that if they don't do something they run the risk of losing the lot.

Now I am sure the response will be along the lines that I do not understand American thinking on this matter (it will of course be hidden in amongst the usual " communist/liberal/socialist" rhetoric) but the reality is I do understand it I just think it is childish.

Keep in mind that the 2nd is tied to The Militia Act. The FFs wanted the people to be armed equivelent to the Army, not just so they could fall in w/o problems, but to be able to take of the Army on an equal footing if need be. There were people expierementing with guns capabilities beyond the double barrel even then.
