well, its obvious where the creators of the matrix got some inspiration from, there were so many bits in there which were in the "burly brawl" where he has the pipe
awesome animation

Yeah, I remember seeing this way back in the day like 1999. The pipe-type stuff you're talking about is actually based off of 90s Hong Kong flicks, looking a lot like Jet Li's stuff in particular. Yuen Woo Ping, the fight coreographer for the Matrix series got his start choeogrpahing Jet Li Hong Kong martial arts flicks, so there you get how it all connects.
