Can't really pick one, but I can narrow it down.
George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Ronald Reagan.
Washington because he was the first President and set a precedent for all those who followed. Abraham Lincoln because he had the courage to do what needed to be done in holding together the Union and freeing the slaves on top of that. Teddy Roosevelt because he turned the US into a player on the world stage. FDR because he led the US through two of the three most dangerous times in our nation's history. Finally, Reagan because he, and the Pope, were the two people who did most to bring down that "Evil Empire" and defeat the greatest threat the world has ever known and they did so without firing a shot.
Let's not forget, Reagan was recently chosen as "The Greatest American" by a nation wide poll last summer, beating out such notables as Tom Cruise and wtf? TOM CRUISE!? Well, in all honesty, that was pre-mid life crisis/scientologist Tom.
