With all due respect, the notion that posts have to be 100% verifiable fact is unsupportable. As the needs of the various services change, so do "the facts," sometimes on a weekly basis. Is the intent of the moderators to have only full-time active duty employees of BUPERS answering the questions here? If so the thread is going to be mighty skimpy and unhelpful.

The problem is that far too many people want to jump in and tout as fact something they have heard via third party -- usually meaningless and incorrect drivel -- which can entice an honest member to seek and explore paths that simply aren't going to happen. That embarrasses this entire board - not only does it almost always degenerate into endless bickering and personal attacks, derail the entire thread, and turn off potential board members, it is a blight on the membership base of a military forum to allow false or misleading information to military prospects. There is an enormous difference between offering an opinion on what your military career was like given your personal perspective and telling someone something you've no clue about regarding enlistment. The former is expected to have a degree of variance from member to member, as we each had different experiences, memories, jobs and units; the latter could lead a young man or a young woman to give up on something they might qualify for or waste their time in unreasonable expectations. It is good to have preventative measures in place to ensure that questions asked in this area of the forum are answered in a manner in which newer members or those seeking advice on military service can be reasonably assured they are given accurate information. |

Topic: US Army
I served and I tend to agree time in service provides valuable insight. Insight is gained by wearing the uniform. I wasn't in combat. However many of my Sargent's and officers were in Vietnam, Korea, WW2.
I have posted on treads since joining with statements based on my studying of military and military related events as well. |
