The IAF is planning to buy F-16s from the United States Government.
Weird!Cause India made a lot of noise about Usa selling them to Pakistan.
And USA was pretty apprehensive about selling anything to India.

Well, I would assume the Americans are trying to bring the Indians closer to them, and keep them away from Russia. also, what model of the F16 is it? Because the olderones arnt exactly top of the line anymore...

Hi,

India is not Planning to Buy F-16's .............. they are one of the Contenders ............. India has Asked many Plane Makers including F-16's asking for details and their Offers.....Including Swedish Gripen fighter aircraft , Dassault Aviation's Mirage, New MiGs...... ones all the proposals will reach ..they will be evaluated and then one Contender will get the orders :)
Read here --> India to buy 126 new warplanes ( F-16 being Considered)

it's very Unlikely it will be F-16 . ;) :D

HI,

HAL may produce F-16s in future

BANGALORE, DHNS:

US Aerospace major Lockheed Martin said on Thursday that the Indian Governments request for information on the F-16 class of fighter was being considered by the US government and hoped to get a clearance at the earliest.
Company Regional Vice-President Dennys Plessas even expressed confidence that Lockheed Martin would, in a future scenario, take up joint production of F-16s with HAL.

He said that a team of US Naval officials will visit India next week to hold talks with the Indian Navy officials over sale of P-3C maritime surveillance aircraft. Lockheed Martin had signed a Technical Assessment Agreement with HAL for exchange of data on P-3C aircraft.

f-16 will no doubt help to make india's airforce a better one,

but hope India's maintainance and training facilities can keep up with F-16

Hi,

The IAF has short-listed four fighters — F-16 (US), MiG 29 (Russia), Mirage-2000-5 (France) and Jas Grippen-39 (Sweden) — for its planned acquisition of 126 aircraft. .................... Request for Information Sent to all the Vendors and awaiting resopnce .

F-16's in my View is a Very bad Choice for Indian AF...............

First problem is the Price

Second it's a Big Order 126 Aircrafts ......... Hindustan Auroneticals Limited (HAL) is vell versed with SU's and MIG's and Mirages ................buying a new aircraft in such huge numbers could take years for F-16's to be fully integrated into the IAF .......... even though HAL has said it Could start Producing F-16's in a very Short time if need be.

Best of the World Phobia sometimes leads into big problem........... best of the World might not be the best for you ........... you also have to consider your Condition not just the Air-Craft. ............... I very well Doubt that Lockheed Martin Would get this order.

But a few like 10 to 15 F-16's would be a good idea just to crete that Different Mix .

But never the less the Roesponce Shown By Lockheed Martin in this order and Also PC Orion to India ............ India For the First Time Placed US AirCfaft up on the Contenders list does show that the Two countries are Coming Together .

No, the different mix idea seems to be poor. The amount of spare parts etc. and support you'll need for them won't be compatable with the other jets so it'd be a waste.
India should just carry on using MiGs or Mirages because their ground crew and pilots are so accustomed to using those aircraft.

which brings it to the subject of variation of aircraft in an airfroce

if a counttry has too many vairations in aircraft designs and units, then spare parts, ammo, treatment even training is efected, which costs alot more than general-designed aircrafts that could carry out multi task

Basically you want to be consistent in terms of makes or country of origin. Those airplanes, even if highly different, tend to have some general principles that they share in common. It'll take far less time to train crews for maintenance and usage.
South Korea's adoption of the F-15 is a sound logistical decision (as well as a political one) because the F-15 and the F-16 use the same engine, and South Korea builds F-16 parts... I think including the engines.

Pakistan is an ally on the War on Terror.
I've heard some really poor stuff from GIs who served in Afghanistan though about Pakistan. Can't go into details though... one told us more than he should have.

Hi,

Pakistan is an ally on the War on Terror.

The Country that is Home to most of the terror Organisation is a Frontline ally on war against terror ............ Now i am really worried....... we are doomed  ;)

This Pakistan-USA relaions is more of a compulsion for both sides .......... if you look at the ground most of the People in pakistan are opposed to US ........... but the Goverment can't Pull it's hand back because of all the Goodies it gets form USA ( Wepons and Aid) ............. on the other hand USA needs a Foothold in the Muslim Countries and more in the South Asia and Middle east .

Saudi Arabia is a Foot Hold in the Middle East and Pakistan Provides the Similar Foothold in the South Asia .

Third there is a risk of pakistani Wepons (nuclear) geting into Rough hands so US needs a Way to have a Influencing say in pakistan's Political system ...............that way they can neutralise a threat if need be some time in the future.............. US has Two bases Inside pakistan and this way they can Strike Quickly.

And on the Question why is USA not with India ...............it goes long way back to the Cold war ................ When India Decided not to ally with the US or Soviet side .......and US at that time was trying to encircle Soviet Union .............Pakistan provided one such opening......... India formed the Non-Aligned Movement and Created the third Block ........... USA used Pakistan and all these Muslim terror organisations at that time against the Soviets ..............whch India Refused to do.............. Pakistan was at that time a non-nato ally of USA ............. has has been getting Aid and Ammonution form that time ............. naturally India got Inclined to Soviet Union and later Russia..

It's not about War On terror ............... During the Afganistan invasion India too decided that if USA needs it's base of facilities it will provide them help............. because India - Iran were Already Providing Logistic and wepons help to the Northen-Allience ............. so it was on our faviour if the Pakistan backed Taliban was removed form Afganistan .

Despite of all that CIA reporting that Pakistani's Inteligence Agency ISI Helped taliban and Al-Quida and more recently paid Money to Al-quida ............and Khan the father of Pakistan's NUclear recerch ............selling Nuclear secrets to Libya , Iran , NK other countries .......and Pakistan being Home to Many terror Organistan.... ...... they have to be In and with Pakistan .................if the let Pakistan go and Pakistan falling into Clerics hand with all this weponary it has .......... would be devestating for everyone Including USA .

We got our history mixed up a little bit don't we? ;)
IIRC Tito was the driving force behind the non-aligned pact together with the presidents of India and Egypt. (Nehru and Mubarak...not sure about the names though)
