After dropping out of the top-35 in owner's points following last weekend’s Allstate 400 at The Brickyard, President and CEO of Evernham Motorsports Ray Evernham has decided to replace Jeremy Mayfield with former NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Champion Bill Elliott at this weekend's AMD at The Glen.

With Elliott as the driver, the No. 19 UAW Dodge Dealers Dodge is secured of entry in the race due to the Past Champions Provisional as no previous champion competing this weekend drives a car outside the top-35 in owner’s points.

Elliott has four career victories with Evernham Motorsports, having run with the team full time from 2001 to 2004 and then part time in 2005.

No decision has been made regarding Mayfield’s future with the team according to a team press release.

"This team has a great deal of potential and we just haven’t met the expectations this year," said Evernham. "We will do whatever we need to get this car in the show for Watkins Glen. It’s important to our sponsors and it’s important to this team. Having Bill in the driver’s seat gives us this guarantee. I believe in our system, our process and our people, and am committed to getting this program where it needs to be."
