Edelweiss

I was watching Band of Brothers the other day and I was wondering if edelweiss is actually a mark of a true German solder? I was also wondering is the Austrian/German folk song edelweiss had anything to do with their military? :salute2:

dont know about the song but edelweiss is a flower in the mountains of germany

Edelweiss is a flower from the Alps. Called Edelweiss in German, it is known as "Alpine Star" in Italian.

The song Edelweiss:

Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me
small and white,
clean and bright,
you look happy to meet me
blossom of snow
may you bloom and grow,
bloom and grow forever
edelweiss, edelweiss, bless my home-land forever

The thing about the Edelweiss is that in only grows on very high, steep (?) mountains, in the bavarian alps. So it´s very dangerous to get it, something like a sign of braveness. If you get one you have to wear it on you uniform like a badge. I think you can see it in Band of Brothers as one of the american Soldiers kills a german and take his Edelweiss from his uniform.

That´s right...
But nowadays its not allowed to pick them because they are under nature protection.

But Edelweiß-Badges are still worn at the caps of the German and Austrian "Gebirgsjäger" (mountain troopers)
