Boeing said its first-quarter profit rose 38 percent compared with the corresponding period a year earlier, to $1.21 billion, as it improved efficiency and recorded more orders for its aircraft. Revenue rose 4 percent, to $15.99 billion. Profit at the commercial airplane segment grew 39 percent, to $983 million. Revenue gained 8 percent, to $8.16 billion. Operating profit for the defense unit rose 10 percent, to $860 million while revenue slipped 2 percent, to $7.57 billion.
