"Du bist swanger"

Stationed in Germany, I made some German friends. Shocking, I know.

Anyway, one of them (a woman) said she'd help me meet women. She said German women like it when Americans speak their language. So, she set me up with some quick phrases. What's up? How are you? Would you like to dance? And, "Are you single?"

So, I hit the scene in this town (Boeblingen, spelling is terrible). I'm going around and start off by asking if the women are single. I couldn't find a single one! It was getting frustrating.

Then, one woman informed me I asked her if she was pregnant.

Seems my friend was having some fun at my expnse.

"Du bist swanger" means "Are you pregnant," not "Are you single."
