WASHINGTON — They were wartime heroes recruited for an experimental anti-smoking drug with the promise of $30 a month. Now, 32,000 veterans, many of whom were suffering post traumatic stress disorder, are being warned that the drug, Chantix, is linked to suicide or violent behavior.
The findings were uncovered in an ABC News/Washington Times probe and at first dismissed by the White House, but yesterday, Veterans Affairs Secretary James Peake said he was sending out warning letters.
