I think what it is is that they trained a rabbit to attack terrorists like the rabbit in the Monty Python movie. the killer rabbit!!

There was rumor that the VC used dynamites tied to rabbits to attack air fields. You know, air fields have those grasses that rabbits find so darn munchy.
 
Ironically, in Mountain Warfare school, Marines are issued 1 bunny each (alive). Said bunny is to provide nutrition for the exercise.

Rabbits are fine but you can't survive on rabbits alone. You can die of rabbit starvation. Plus rabbits aren't the easiest things to catch out there.
 
Snare+Starvation+Woods=Bunny Stew

Rabbit Starvation is because rabbit is super lean of fat. You can eat rabbit for a short period of time but not as the main source. You can have rabbit once a week but you need to have beef or other protein sources that have a high fat count.
