Does war leave one with better martial arts skills?

I am under the impression that it does. I have heard stories of people who have been through wars doing remarkable things in the ring and in street fights. Some people say it is the military in general but I have always felt their was something more. I feel that war makes a person at least 10 times tougher both in the mind and in the body.

I think you've been watching too many movies.

War possibly hardens ones outlook, but it also turns a lot of good men into psychiatric cases. If you think that war is glorious, I suggest that you have a lot to learn about life.

War is sometimes necessary, but rarely a process that leaves it's warriors completely unscarred.

Most Medal of Honor and Victoria Cross holders are/were, for the most part, common, ordinary soldiers who did what was necessary at the time. I don't think Rambo types are a majority when it comes to valor.
