At Ft. Polk, the new army barracks had just been completed. 2 man rooms! A bathroom for each room, heat and air conditioning, carpet, a kitchenette, etc.... These things were NICE! Units fought for the privelege of getting the first ones....
And the Air force guys who had to stay in them got a pay allowance for staying in "substandard housing".

Any change other than a tent would have been an improvement at Ft. Polk. Our "quarters" were built in 1941.
