Boeing Co.'s St. Louis-based Integrated Defense Systems unit saw its revenue and earnings grow in the third quarter.
The defense unit, which has been relatively untouched by the machinist strike that has crippled its commercial aircraft division, said its third-quarter sales jumped 6 percent to $8.5 billion compared with the same period last year, and earnings rose 4 percent, to $854 million.
The growth in revenue was sharpest at Boeing Military Aircraft, thanks to a larger-than-usual number of deliveries. Profits came entirely from the Network and Space Systems division, which had strong deliveries.
The company valued its order backlog at $73 billion.
