Defence recruitment is making me fork out money! (Australia)

I can't believe this.... The doctor at recruitment back in assessment day made me see an orthapaedic surgeon just to check a stupid clicking left hip. What really ticks me off is that it cost a shit load of money just to see this specialist ($110-130). The specialist told me that he thought its most likely was just a tendon making the noise and it was nothing serious. Then of course he wanted to make me fork more money out by having an X-ray and an MRI scan. both of these procedures cost over 100 dollars themselves and medicare does not cover this crap unfortunatly. I swear, i hate this military recruitment for all the crap im going through. Before i even had to grab school reports and get every form certified by the police station (3 police officers can to help sign signatures on each page). Im tired of these delays and i can't wait until the day i won't have to deal with recruitment anymore.

In Norway most of this will be covered by the Army..
(Unless you're an officer.. :? )

Yeah that'll happen. Your not a defence member yet, so your not eligible for reimbursment or free medical from them. It's up to you to prove your health, not them.

I had to see an optometrist and get a report on my eyes. I had to pay for it, and yeah it's expensive. BUT, I didn't care because I wanted to join the army, and the money was not an issue. I was happy to do what ever it took to prove my health, and comply with everything else they ask for. Just remember, your joining the army. It's not a place where you can coast your way through or skip steps, and that starts with recruitment, and will remain for your entire career.

well at least now i learn that im not the only one who needs to fork out cash. Thats itself makes me feel better in a way. The truth is though... im physically healthy...

The ADF is protecting itself from people who would otherwise try to sue them many years down the track for braking them. So if the RMO at Recruiting found something "sus" they have a duty of care to get you to get a medical report to say that everything is OK. If you are getting mad or upset over such a little thing then you should look at another path to take as life in the Army can get very frustrating.

Losing cash for trivial purposes is very frustrating for me. But im not angry that much anymore. I was thinking i was the only one needing to do this crap, but i have found several people needing to do this. Im mostly frustrated with delays though... i was never lucky really.

last year i had a JOES day... sadly, i had one hell of a flu on that day and it screwed me up on that aptitude test. I had to wait another 6 months to do the test again unfortunatly (Luckily i was at high school then). Then i did my JOES day again and this time i killed the test, finishing it before everyone else. Then came the assessment day after 4 weeks and i was told im too young to be a 'general entry' officer and was told i had to apply another 12 months later (Fair enough). I was not disapointed at that, but then i thought i'll go in general entry (Crewman MBT, APC, LAV) so a couple of weeks after that assessment day, i passed with flying colours but this medical crap had to come along. Its mostly all of these delays all together which annoys me more than anything.

Those "MANPOWER" guys that handle ADF recruiting are the biggest bunch of f*ckups ever. I haven't spoken to anyone who didn't complain about the royal runaround they got from their recruitment process.

Same stuff happened to me. Went for Assessment day on 2nd of Feb and was told I would have to see my orthpedic surgeon. I had a partial tear in the cruciate ligament in my knee 4 years earlier and even though I had MRI's there and the surgeon said I was ok they still told me to go back to him. Took me a month to go see him and around 80 dollars now I am not going in until the 26th of September. I think I missed out on an earlier intake because of this.

It is annoying how this crap happens. So you had an MRI as well? Whats strange is they don't even trust the words of a specialist? Im lucky enough just to have some muscle inflamations and thats it. It is already taking them too long to inform me on the next step of recruitment, which i believe is the physical. I called my defence recruiter just a half an hour ago and of course i had to talk to an answering machine. I hope she rings up shortly.

I have been reading all the American boards where there recruiters ring them up nearly every week. Mine doesn't give a shit about me. Spoke to him on JOES day, spoke to him over the phone couple of days before Assessment day, spoke to someone else informing me they had a position for me, spoke to him to set a date for the PFT. And when I went and had my blood test it took them 2 months to get back to me about it.

Ah that explains it. Both your states suck (especially Vics).... just kidding fellas :D ;)

Seriously, it's like any big organisation. Just put up with the bullshit and get through it... then your done. No point whinging about it, because believe me you will go NOWHERE in the army if your a whinger.

Oi, Melbourne is the best city in Australia :p

Anyway, im glad things are close to finished for me, im waiting for the medical group to clear me and then do the PFA and enlistment. If i knew this would take so long, i would have done some tafe course when in the middle of recruitment.
