1865 Battle of Platte Bridge Station. The Post sends 20 of its 97 men out to escort in a 5 wagon train escorted by 25 troops that is in bound. When the 20 man escort is only a 1/2 mile from the post, 3,000 Sioux, Cheyanne & Arapahoe attack. 5 of the 20 sent out from the Post are killed & the rest wounded fighting their way back to the Post, the 5 wagon drivers & the 25 man escort, further away, are wiped out.

1864 CS cavalry burn Chambersburg, Pa. The Battle of the Crater. Gen. Meade cancells the use of US Colored Troops who had been trained to spearhead the attack around the crater at the last minute. White troops untrained in how to make the attack charge into the crater & are slaughtered.
1916 Black Tom Island munitions explosion. German sabatuers detonate 2 million lbs of muntions, including 100,000 lbs of TNT, on the island in New York Harbor. The explosion was felt in Baltimore, Md.
1945 I-85 sinks USS Indianapolis. 883 crew dies from the sinking & drifting @ sea when no one noticed that the Crusier was missing at sea.

Sad sad situation. Thousands of Poles died b/c they had no support from Russia, who, as far as I understand, did not allow the British to support them.

Stalin knew the leaders were not only anti-German but anti-Russian/Communist, so let the Germans solve the "problem".
