A Danish soldier from the Air Force was killed and four soldiers from the Army were wounded in an IED explosion on Sunday.

The 33-year-old airman and dog handler Martin Kristiansen from the Air Force was killed and four soldiers wounded Sunday when their armored personnel carrier was hit by an explosion from an improvised explosive device (IED) in the region of the forward Camp Budwan.

All the implicated soldiers received first aid on the spot and were evacuated back to Budwan. From there they were flown by helicopter to the field hospital at Camp Bastion.

Martin Kristiansen was pronounced dead on arrival at the field hospital. His dog was also killed by the IED.

Rest in peace.
