im not sure how to link but you'll get to uk web sites via ministry of defence (MOD) or theres also an informal & very unofficial forum called arrse (army rumour service) that tends to be populated by brit service personnel with the odd aussie & yank posting on it

Hey yankees I haven't seen white flags yet

Dear Member,

I wish as an American to apologize for the crass behavior of some of my countrymen. There is no excuse.

To wit, when on cyperspace I find French-bashing and those crude jokes, I tell them that if they are ever near Norfolk and Virginia Beach area to go to the Yorktown National Battlefield. I tell them to take the auto tour of the battlefield. And I tell them that when they drive pass that huge cross in the woods with no names or plaque to consider those crude comments and jokes they make about France. That cross is over the bodies of over 200 French soldiers that died at Yorktown in 1782 in the battle that won our nations independence. One thing most Americans ignore is that without the French winning that one critical naval battle in Chesepeake Bay (ie one fo the few the French won against the British in the 1700s) and the engineers and siege artillery American would not exists or exists only as the New England states. Americans owe France that forever and should never forget it.

Respectfully yours,
Jack E. Hammond, Indiana, USA

NOTE. Just curious. I checked the link you provided on the French Army and looked up infantry weapons and discovered that the AT-4 is listed but no longer the APILAS personal antitank rocket. I wrote an article on the APILAS back in the early 1980s and the French Army insisted on max penetration even at a huge size weapon (ie I admit I got paid to write a pro-article -- Hey! Gotta make a living). They flat out refused the smaller personal assault weapons like the improved M72, Armburster, WASP and the AT-4. The French Army reported from the 1991 Gulf War they were overjoyed with its overkill in urban warfare. Anyone know why they changed their minds and no longer have the APILAR or is it still in service?
